There is no reason to be stuck for something to do this weekend with plenty of free events taking place in and around Bolton.

Free family fun includes:

Saturday Club at Bolton Central Library and Museum where children can take part in free activities from 1.30pm to 3pm.

In Bromley Cross youngsters aged four-to-11-years-old can join The Crafty Crew which on Saturday has a Jelly Fish theme and fancy dress is welcome. The club runs from 10am to noon.

Blackrod Library is staging a special Saturday Club for children under-five and their families to enjoy stories, songs and activities from 9.30am.

Hall i'th' Wood is inviting those a little bit older to enjoy a trip back to the past as it stages the Festival of Archaeology. Visitors can discover more about the archaeology of the hall. A tour will take place at 1.30pm led by the chairman of Bolton Archaeology and Egyptology Society, Ian Trumble. He will also be talking about Bolton Archaeology and Egyptology Society’s recent findings from their Medieval

Graffiti surveys of the hall. So bring a torch so that you can have a closer look at the graffiti otherwise known as witch markings. The day runs form noon until 4pm.

Horwich Library will be giving a flavour of what is to come at this year's Bolton and Food Drink Festival. This year children are invited to take part in a Mad Hatters themed hat making competition.

The theme of the competition takes inspiration from Lewis Caroll’s Alice in Wonderland, and when it comes to hat creation, the wackier the better.

Horwich Library will be hosting a hat making session on Saturday from 11am to 12pm. The competition will be judged by a celebrity chef and all children entering the competition will also be invited to parade their hats at Bolton Food and Drink Festival August Bank Holiday weekend.
