THE sound of ukuleles, brass, guitars, soul and more will be filling the air of Bolton this Bank Holiday weekend.

An eclectic mix of music has been put on the line-up for the Bolton Food and Drink Festival.

This year’s event boasts two stages and more than 60 different performers entertaining into the evening – with big names from Bolton and beyond.

Headlining the the main stage on Friday night will be the town’s very own rising stars Jordan Allen.

The indie four-piece have just enjoyed sell-out gigs, joining the line-up of Isle of Wight and Dot to Dot festivals and being picked to perform at London’s Kensington Roof Garden in Virgin Radio’s Summer Freshfest Competition.

Lead singer Jordan said: “It’s been a hectic couple of weeks and it feels like we’re at an all time high point for the band with some real momentum.

“Things can only get bigger and better after the Virgin Fest, two Manchester sell out shows and now headlining the Festival in our home town. We’re truly Livin La Vida Bolton.”

The main stage in Le Mans Crescent on Friday is all about the best of indie featuring bands like Cleargreen, Sittin’Pretty and Jade Assembly.

On Saturday its a bit retro with Northern Soul singer Johnny Pryer and Electro 80’s headlining with Tommy Holland bringing his Elvis tribute – crowned as the best in the country – on the Sunday alongside Stone Roses guitarist Aziz Ibrahim.

It is then all about the funk on Monday with headliners Good Foxy from Clitheroe and Bolton’s own reggae four-piece Jeramiah Ferrari.

In between it all audiences can also catch the Bolton Ukulele Group, award-winning Eagley Brass Band and festival jazz favourites Hot Potato Syncopators or find even more music at the Real Ale and Cider Bar stage.

Organiser Dawn Price said: “When I started the music for the food and rink festival five years ago it was just a small stage in Victoria Square with acoustic bands. Now it has grown with over 60 acts across the whole weekend.

“We have the best indie, tribute, electro and Bolton bands on. There’s no other place in Bolton we could put in an event like this.

“It is really exciting. We have tried to put something on for everybody as much as possible.

“Historically people wouldn’t usually come for the food festival discovered it because they came for the music, and people who came for the food discovered bands from Bolton which they never have come across before.

“It all ties in nicely!”

Music runs from 11.30am to 10.30pm on Friday, noon to 10.30pm Saturday and Sunday, and 11.30am to 6.30pm on Monday.
