A MUSICIAN who is being backed by an award-winning record producer has been in his hometown filming the video for his debut solo single.

Rimmers Music in Bolton forms the backdrop for Alex James Brierley’s song Listen, the title track of his EP which is being produced by Steve Levine, who has worked with some of the leading names in the industry including The Clash.

He produced Culture Club’s studio albums as well as composing film and television scores.

Alex, aged 20, from Horwich said: “Rimmers Music was just down the road from Canon Slade which I attended and I have been coming here since I was young.

“Listen is about hope and about not to worry about the future. It doesn’t have a storyline with it as some of my other songs have so I thought filming the video would look more interesting.”

Alex, who also attended St Joseph’s RC School in Horwich, is filmed playing a £120,000 concert grand piano, which is Elton John’s instrument of choice at his concerts.

He was spotted by the record producer while touring with band SPACE.

Alex said: “It feels good to have my music produced by Steve.

“It’s always been my ambition to do this, but you do think, ‘will it happen?’ Then it just takes off.

“It is weird, but a nice weird.”

The EP will released on October 27 and Alex has been at the famous Abbey Road Studios to work on his EP recently.

The talented musician plays a variety of instruments.

He said: “At the moment my music is pop, rock, alternative, I am keeping it quite mainstream, but later I would like to experiment.”

His manager Mick Watson believes Alex is a musician to watch.

Mick said: “We are getting a lot of positive feedback from national radio.

“His music will appeal to a wide audience, and out of people I have managed, he is one that really stands out. Alex is all about his music.”

Mr Levine said: “I was immediately impressed Alex’s rich vocal tone and sheer quality of his songwriting and

musicianship.

“He seems to be able to play absolutely any instrument incredibly well, including the viola, as featured on the EP.

“I’m really pleased with the recording as its a great snapshot of Alex and the potential he has to appeal to a wider audience.”

Production team Culture City have been filming at Rimmers for several days.
