PETER Kay will perform a special DJ set at this year's Carfest event.

The much-loved Bolton comic will man the decks at both Carfest North and Carfest South next summer.

He confirmed he would be playing the three-day festivals, which raise funds for Children in Need on Chris Evans Radio Two breakfast show this morning.

The stand-up favourite described the news as 'magical and amazing' in a jovial exchange with Evans.

Asked which night of the festival weekends he would like to play said: "I will go with the flow, whatever's best for you. Saturday's alway the better night but I'm happy to do Friday, I can take the gentle touch."

"I do a DJ set every year in arenas around the country every year in arenas to raise money for cancer research, but since you have cajoled me, I'm going to do the Carfest south and north."

The star of Phoenix Nights has never been to the festival before but told Evans: "You've told me all about it and say it's very good . My friend Simon went last year and said it was amazing."

The funnyman, who stars in the current Warburton's TV advertising campaign, was also quizzed on whether he had any diva-like backstage demands.

But it turns out he is one of the more low-maintenance celebs out there.

He said: "My rider? Water and tuna mayonnaise.

"Years ago I asked for a red bucket and a tuna mayonnaise sandwich for a laugh and every show I do I get one."

And he was also keen on a 1980s fancy-dress theme.

"It does get rid of the inhibitions," he said.

Fans are also speculating that  a special episode of his hit sitcom Car Share will also air as part of Children in Need on November 17, raising hopes that there could be a happy ending for John and Kayleigh after all.

Carfest North takes place at Bolesworth Castle, Tattenhall, Cheshire over the weekend of July 27 to 29.

And Carfest South will be held at Laverstoke Park Farm, Overton, Hampshire between August 24 and 26.
