LITTLE Lever and Darcy Lever councillor, Sean Hornby will be attending the funeral of comedian, Sir Ken Dodd in Liverpool today.
Cllr Hornby, who is leader of Bolton’s UKIP group, was invited by Mr Dodd’s widow Anne Jones.
The funeral will take place at the Liverpool Anglican Cathedral from at 1pm, and Mr Hornby’s invitation will allow him to be seated in the building.
Cllr Hornby said: “It was something I never expected, and I was prepared to attend the funeral service at the Liverpool Anglican Cathedral on Wednesday as a normal member of the public.
“I am humbled to be attending this event to celebrate a comedy legend, a comic genius and a personal friend for over 35 years.
“I laid flowers last week outside Ken's home in Knotty Ash in a very moving moment, in celebration of his life. I also wrote a private letter to Anne highlighting what Ken meant to me and to the family.”
The cathedral will open its doors for the service at noon, and a large screen will be set up outside for mourners to see the service.
Comedian and performer Mr Dodd, aged 90, died on March, 11.
