A NEW co-op store in Horwich has opened its doors to the public after a £340,000 makeover.
Children from local childcare group Horwich Playcare helped to open the new store, which is aiming to provide a new "hub" for the local community.
The store, in Winter Hey Lane, has been kitted out with a new in-store bakery and will offer added ranges of beers and wines in its state-of-the-art premises.
Store bosses said there will be a focus on fresh food and bringing meal ideas to life - the isles of the shop now feature inspiration and tips on each aisle.
Staff at the store are receiving additional training to enable them to provide expert advice and to help inspire customers with meal ideas.
The store's opening hours have also been extended, previously shoppers were able to visit between 7am and 10pm, but now the doors will be open from 6am until 11pm, seven days a week.
The Co-op said has also launched a commitment to “Fair and Square Pricing”, lowering prices on everyday essentials such as bread, milk and bacon.
Helen Horsley, Store Manager, said: “I’m excited about welcoming shoppers into the new store. The transformation is amazing, and I’m sure our customers will enjoy shopping in this new environment, which makes it the perfect place to get ideas and inspiration whatever time of day they visit.
“The Co-operative is a community retailer, and we are committed to playing an active role in local life, embracing the area’s community spirit."
