BOLTON Wanderers supporters have expressed anger after a flare was thrown into the corporate box by a Blackburn Rovers fan on Boxing Day's derby game.

Fans took to Twitter to voice their outrage about the incident, which happened in the second half of the game at the Macron Stadium.

Jim Murphy, the leader of the Scottish Labour Party, also posted a comment, saying that the game was "incident packed".

A spokesman for GMP confirmed that a "smoke bomb" had been thrown from the Blackburn end.

Another fan from Bromley Cross, who wished not to be named, said: "They threw a flare into one of the corporate boxes. It wasn't the first time and it probably won't be the last. I'm surprised it wasn't found when they were searched."

The game ended 2-1 to Bolton, helped by a goal from new signing Emile Heskey.

A spokesman for Bolton Wanderers said: "Bolton Wanderers and the police are aware of the incident in the South Stand and where a device was thrown at the window of a box.

"We will be reviewing CCTV footage and will be sharing the information with police."

The FA and Blackburn have been approached for a comment.
