A CLASSIC car was set on fire in an early hours arson attack.

Fire crews were called to Ivy Road in Halliwell at about 2.30am this morning after a parked Morris Minor car had caught fire.

Part of the window of the car had been pulled down and a fire had been started inside.

Crews put the flames out but the majority of the driver and passenger compartments were destroyed.

It is believed that the blaze was started deliberately and Greater Manchester Police are investigating the incident.

The owner of the car, who lives nearby, was on the scene as the firefighters extinguished the blaze.
