A WEDDING venue has been refused consent to build a new car park.

The Al Hira Banqueting Hall had wanted to create space for 31 cars on land off Mossfield Road, Farnworth.

However, Bolton Council says that the development would create too much noise and activity to the detriment of nearby residents.

Last year, town hall bosses ruled that the venue should not be used as a function suite after complaints about noise and parking problems.

Some residents disapproved of noise from ceremonial drummers at Asian weddings and others complained of fireworks being set off.

The venue is currently subject to an Enforcement Notice Appeal and is therefore unauthorised.

A council report into the car park plans said: “While the development would provide much needed additional car parking provision for the banqueting hall, it is considered that the detrimental impacts of the proposal on the adjacent residential dwellings in respect of noise and disturbance materially outweighs the benefits of the proposal.”
