OLD boys and girls of Rivington and Blackrod High School — and its predecessor the Grammar School — can put their grey matter to good use at an inaugural quiz to support the charity fund of the The Association of Old Rivingtonians' president.
The Association is appealing for former pupils and staff to enter teams of four in the general knowledge quiz at Horwich Gold Club on Wednesday, May 3 at 7.30pm. The winners will take home a new trophy. Entry is £20 per team, which includes for a pastie and pea supper.
The Association's incoming president, former head boy at Rivington, Jim Andrews, has nominated two local mental health charities – namely Bolton Dementia Support Group and B.A.N.D. as the twin beneficiaries of all the charity events staged by the Old Rivs this year.
The Association has been in existence since 1904, and is made up of former pupils, staff, and governors of the high school and the former Grammar school and local and national charities benefit from the proceeds of all its reunion and social activities. Over the years, the Association's President's Charity has donated more than £70,000 to worthy causes.
