BIN lorries might be associated with collections but now they are also being used for delivering messages to householders.

Bolton Council is reminding residents how to use their beige and burgundy recycling bins by displaying messages on the side of the wagons.

Eye-catching graphics have been emblazoned on ten new refuse collection trucks operating in the town. They have all been fitted with the Spedian lightweight, reuseable graphics system, which makes messages easy to apply and remove.

Daniela Dixon, senior recycling officer at Bolton Council, said: “We want to make it clear that the waste from all our different bins is handled separately – the recycling from the beige and burgundy bins is kept separate.

“We don’t mix it up. We empty them both at the same time, but there is a split in the compartment at the back of the vehicle and the two types of recycling are kept apart.

“It is important that the right recycling goes in the right bin.”
