MOTORISTS have been warned of potential disruption next week as a main junction in Farnworth is resurfaced.

The work is already underway to improve traffic flow, pedestrian and cycling facilities at the junction of Manchester Road and Loxham Street.

And now resurfacing us due to take place overnight on Monday, November 27 and on the following Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, subject to weather conditions.

Egerton Street will be closed between 8pm and 6am on these days from the Lorne Street junction to Bolton Road.

Diversions will be signposted and motorists will still be able to use the road during the day.

It could add to the current traffic chaos surrounding the continuing repair work at Moses Gate bridge, which was damaged by a water main burst in August, with Bolton Road still closed near the junction with Egerton Street.

REVEALED: Complex nature of work to repair bridge after collapse

Bolton Council’s cabinet member for highways Cllr David Chadwick said: "In order to do this resurfacing work safely we will need to close Egerton Street overnight.

"We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience to residents and road users and also reassure them that Egerton Street will remain open during the day.

"Network Rail is still repairing the bridge at Moses Gate railway station, damaged due to a burst water mains, which is a very complex engineering project."

The resurfacing work is funded by the Greater Manchester Local Growth Deal and will be delivered by Bolton Council and Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) as part of the Salford Bolton Network Improvement (SBNI) programme.

Cllr Andrew Fender, chairman of the TfGM Committee, said: "Small improvements at key points in the road network make a positive difference to many journeys.

"Once complete, all road users will benefit from improved traffic flows, improved facilities and reduced congestion in the area.

"The SBNI programme, across a number of specific areas within Bolton and Salford, is designed to make the transport network more efficient overall."
