A POPULAR town centre bar is making a comeback this weekend - less than a month since its shock closure.

Harvey’s Cafe Bar, in Mawdsley Street, will hold its grand reopening on Saturday from noon.

And there will also be a ‘soft opening’ on Friday, where guests, including local business people, will be invited to return to the bar.

New boss Jason Heyes says the venue has been spruced up and some improvements have been made, but a full overhaul is pencilled in for early next year.

The venue will be putting a new focus on its selection of gin and cocktails.

Harvey’s shut at the end of last month, with the previous management citing a downturn in business, partly owing to competition from venues at The Vaults.

But Mr Heyes is confident the bar can be a success once again.

He said: “It’s bringing Harvey’s back but making it a bit more modernised, making it more cocktail and gin-based and keeping up with the trends. A lot of business went to The Vaults because Harvey’s didn’t give them anything to compete with.”

The bar is also bringing back former staff and is looking to take on more.
