A 9-month-old sheep dog puppy was saved from a smoke-logged home by firefighters.

Jake the puppy was rescued by firefighters after his owners had accidentally left a chip pan on when they went out.

Neighbours called the fire brigade and Jake's owners about the smoke.

When the firefighters got to the semi-detached home in Ashley Avenue in Breightmet they had to break down the door to get inside.

The crew turned off the pan and neighbours told them there was a puppy living at the house, the crew returned inside and found Jake hiding under a table.

Watch manager Pete Gray, said: "It was very smokey and he had breathed some in so we gave him some oxygen outside.

"He seemed fine and he was bubbly enough."

Jake's owners were just around the corner and arrived shortly after the fire service did.

Watch manager Gray said the incident was an accident but urged people to be aware and make sure they turn their appliances off after cooking.
