A DRIVING group in Bolton is offering special courses for young drivers.

Bolton & District Advanced Motorists Group will be refunding the cost of its courses if drivers between the ages of 17 and 30 go on to pass an advanced test.

The offer is part of the IAM RoadSmart course, which helps drivers improve beyond their regular driving test training.

Those who pass the test are accredited as advanced drivers, meaning they are likely to get insurance benefits as a result.

Roy Sammons, chairman of the group, said: “As advanced drivers we are dedicated to improving road safety.

“We know that young drivers lack experience and that they are more at risk of having an accident than people who have been driving for many years. This is why we are keen to give this special offer to the 17-30 age group.”

He also explained that young people were able to learn the skills faster and have had less time to develop bad habits.

Steve Peary, vice-chairman, added: “Our course gives people the extra experience they need and improves their observation and planning.

“This results in their becoming more skilful thinking drivers which then ensures greater safety for themselves and their passengers.”

The next course begins with an enrolment evening on Thursday, 3 May at Lostock Parish Centre, Tempest Road, Lostock, BL6 4EL, from 7pm to 9pm.
