A BOLTON MP has slammed rail bosses for a string of cancelled and delayed services.

Sir David Crausby said it was wrong that passengers should be “squashed into a toilet with two other people”.

It follows major disruption on Northern services from Bolton station on Tuesday, with some trains cancelled and others left delayed or with reduced numbers of carriages.

Lack of trains meant that many of those that ran were overcrowded.

The Bolton North East MP has previously called on the operator to improve services and the delay repay schemes in place to allow passengers to get their money back.

He said: “Sadly there seems to have been no reprieve for local commuters as problems continue to plague our local trains.”

Sir David is set to meet with representatives from Northern, First TransPennine Express and Network Rail on Friday, April 20.

Northern said the issues on Tuesday were largely due to train crews being delayed.

The meeting is expected to touch on issues surrounding electrification and the disruption caused in Bolton, as well as over-crowding, short-formed trains, reliability and the loss of certain services from Scotland.

The Labour MP has previously criticised the privatisation of Britain's railways system for failing to provide more effective services.
