AN angry lover smashed the window of a car belonging to a man his partner was having an affair with.

Bolton Magistrates’ Court heard Wayne Whalley had gone to watch football and was expected home at 7pm on March 31.

But he returned home an hour early and found his partner and another man, Kris Ellis, in bed. The court heard Mr Ellis’s Renault Science was parked on the drive, and Whalley elbowed a window, causing it to smash.

Whalley, aged 46, of Croft Street, Westhoughton, pleaded guilty to criminal damage.

Rebecca Sharp, defending, said: “He does not wish to excuse his behaviour, but the sight he found when he returned home, his partner in bed with someone else, made him angry. He accepts that he smashed the window in temper.”

He was given a 12-month conditional discharge, and was ordered to pay £75 compensation and £85 court costs.
