A 47-YEAR-OLD man was taken to hospital with burns to his hand after putting out a grill pan fire.

The fire is thought to have been caused at the semi-detached home in Crompton Way, Hall i’th Wood, by a burn up of fat in the grill pan while the man was cooking.

He put out the fire at 7.25pm on Sunday but burned his hand in the process.

Kirk Cornwall, watch manager, said: “We gave him trauma care and applied a burns dressing. He was taken to the Royal Bolton Hospital.

“We administered first aid and fitted smoke alarms as the ones in the home were not working.”

The man’s wife and 11-year-old son were not injured.

People can get free smoke alarms and have a fire home safety check by calling the fire service on 0800 555 815.
