A SCHOOL will honour a dedicated youth worker who helped to change the lives of hundreds of young people.

Christine Partington, aged 66, spent many years working and volunteering with the Wellfield Project, in Deane, before she died of cancer in February.

Brandwood School in Daubhill, where she started off working as a cook, will be unveiling a plaque in her memory today.

She also served as a school governor for more than 20 years.

Headteacher Rosemary Jones said: “She started at the school as a cook in 1978 and was here for 10 years before going into youth work and returning as a school governor.

“She worked really hard for Deane and Daubhill area and believed in the young people. We felt we had to do something .”

She added: “Christine really was a lovely lady who always saw the good in people.”

Being mounted near the plaque will be two mosaics created by former girls of Brandwood School who were being mentored by Mrs Partington.

Guests will include family members together with former Bolton South East MP Brian Iddon as well as former pupils and governors.

Mrs Jones said: “It will be an informal gathering, where people can share their memories of Christine. There have been other tributes and we also wanted to pay tribute to Christine who started working here before moving on to youth work and served as a governor for a long time.”

The event will start at 4pm.

Also attending will be the Mayor of Bolton, Cllr Noel Spencer, but he will be attending not as the town’s first citizen but as a friend of Mrs Partington.
