WESTHOUGHTON music legends will be creating a royal racket on June 2, to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

The concert, which will take place in Wigan Parish Church, will feature the popular Wingates Band and The Houghton Weavers.

The bands have promised the programme will feature plenty of old favourites as well as patriotic and celebratory music to mark the occasion.

The renowned Wingates Band, formed in 1973, has recently welcomed back previous musical director Andrew Barryman, who is looking forward to put his stamp on the 2012 concert season.

The Houghton Weavers, one of the country’s most long-standing and successful folk groups, has toured all over Europe, recorded CDs and even hosted a TV show.

The two groups have been collaborating for years in Bolton and further afield, with their regular “Folk and Brass” series at Rivington Hall Barn and Victoria Hall proving popular.

A spokesperson for the event said: “We hope this consistently popular format for a concert will prove an ideal way to celebrate this unique occasion, and we’re hoping that a capacity crowd will be there to enjoy it.”
