UPDATE: Tributes to biker killed in park accident
John was a much loved partner and friend, father to Josh and Leah who will be missed very much by all his family and many friends
John was a much loved partner and friend, father to Josh and Leah who will be missed very much by all his family and many friends

THE family of a "doting father" who was killed when the motorbike he was riding crashed into a metal gate have paid tribute to him.

John Scotson, aged 27, of Newton Road, Lowton, died after he and a friend had taken a Yamaha 250cc off-road motorbike for a test ride on tracks in the Lowton area.

They were riding along a bridleway in Pennington Country Park, when they tried to negotiate a left-hand bend and the bike collided with a metal gate. Paramedics pronounced Mr Scotson dead at the scene.

Mr Scotson's friend suffered a facial injury and a suspected fracture to his leg and hand.

John's partner, Kate Collier, said: "John was a much loved partner and friend, father to Josh and Leah who will be missed very much by all his family and many friends."

Mr Scotson's mother Michelle Harriet and sister Samantha Scotson added: "John was a beloved son, nephew, doting father to Leah and Joshua, loving partner to Kate and a special friend to many.

"He will be sadly missed by all."

Anyone with information about the collision is asked to call traffic police on 0161 856 7201.

The word 'illegaly' seems to be missing from this story.

This idiot could not have been riding this bike legally along a bridleway as that is not permitted by law.

We should be lucky he didn't kill some innocent adult or child enjoying a walk while idiots on motorbikes whiz around them.

2 children have lost their dad to an act of illegal stupidity.

Let this be a lesson, this is the reality of actions like this.

its true though he should have never have been on tht path on tht bike. Was he wearing a helmet? proberly not must of been going at some speed to which is not safe if people or kids had been on that path.
In the flash you cant even go for an evening walk with all the youths on there bikes going at full speed along the canal and down the paths. Something has to be done to stop these people getting onto the park with these bikes they are ILLEGAL after all!

I find it hard to find sympathy These people who ride these often dangerous off raod bikes on a BRIDLEWAY, OK a mans died and its a familys loss but he could have easily killed a child, spooked a horse, or worse, perhaps its a lesson to the other idiots that zoom around ILLEGALLY on these things and expect hearts and flowers when things go wrong

'carnt find symathy'wot is she on ??she must have a steel heart..how cold was that .. its okay cold hearted people like that can say all that about illegal bike riding .at the end of the day may be she could help set some form of safe riding track up for these riders..they often get bad mouthed but yet NO ONE will give them the support to get a track up and running . theres plenty of spare land...BUT.. besides the point..STILL im sure the last thing johns family and friends need to hear are such cold hearted comments like the ones they have said...so maybe some comments are best left un said... to these cold hearted people....if you get what i mean ... Nevermind wasting tax payers money on tracks, we need traps to get these illegal bikes off the road. Would you still be so sympathetic if it was one your family or friends injured by these illegal, iresponsible people?

somegets on an bike, rides it illegally and its always someone elses fault when it goes wrong,
yes it is a tragedy that a mans died, but that should underline just what a menace these things are.
cold hearted? possibly? Im just glad this guy didnt hit a child now that would have been a real tragedy

I do agree with the comments by numyead and I have sympathy for the 2 kids who have lost a father. As for holding my nose in the air, I can't do that cos i have to keep my eyes on my childen particularly as some of these illegal bikes are tearing round the estates and parks! Exactly 'respect to those who DESERVE respect'.

Reality is harsh dee.

The reality is that because of this persons inconsiderate actions parents have lost a son, children have lost a dad and someone has lost their partner.

We can't keep pussyfooting around when something tragic happens to someone because of their stupid illegal actions.

There was also no mention from me about him deserving to die, he did not deserve to die, he died because of his actions.

As for compassion I have compassion for the poor people he left behind, as stated in this and my original post.

It also appears that many posters after me also seem to agree with me.

Sympathy to you Janine, however cruel it sounds your brother died as a result of rideing an illegal motorbike, why not try and get something positive from the sad situation and start a campaign to highlight the dangers of these death trap motorbikes.
your family would be a powerful voice.

Yes, some things could be left unsaid, and if things were left unsaid nothing would ever get done to resolve these very dangerous situations such as speeding illegal motorbikes on bridalpaths.

I do understand it must be hard to read some of these comments but as stated before they are reality by real people, I dare say if you had no connection to the deceased you too would agree with the posters on this site.

As for calling him an idiot, if you was on that bridalpath having a lovely day with your family and a motorbike flew past you with two people on, would you not possibly use the comment 'look at those idiots flying round here on that bike'?

Both people on that bike were idoits whether operating it or riding pillion.

I am sorry for your loss as I have stated in most of my posts.

I have compassion for the family he left behind but not necisarily for him, this was not an accident, an accident is something that happens through no fault of someone, this was the fault of the rider, and this could not happen to anyone, only somebody acting foolishly and illegally.

I don't feel as if I have to know the whole story before posting a comment, it is clearly stated who was illegaly riding the motorbike in the above news article.

Again, If you had no connection to the deceased would you think that someone acting illegally on a motorbike was a good thing.

This site is for debate on stories posted in the Bolton News and offers people the chance to have their say.

I see no gossip here, only people having an opinion about a story on illegal Motorbike use and endangerment to the public.

Had he have survived this, and been caught by the police, surely he would have been arrested and processed as a criminal, who had performed a criminal act?

I also would not wish what happened to him to happen to anyone or their families.

I see no one slagging him off only stateing facts and truths.

It seems funny that all comments from people who knew him conveniently fail to acknowledge this being an illegal dangerous activity.

Again I fully agree with you numyead.

If family and friends were to take up this cause and acknowledge the illegality and dangerous nature of this it could have such a massive impact on other people to make them think twice about the consequences of their actions and the pain felt by those who could be left behind.

The people posting on this site are not selfish.

Selfish is thinking you can go out on a high powered motorbike for your own enjoyment in a public place causing danger and upset to other peoples quiet relaxing day for your own selfish enjoyment.

That seems more like selfish to me.

I have no need to 'give it a rest' cb.

I came on here to give my opinion, as the comment board allows you to.

I have responded to crticism in an intelectual manner and within the board rules.

If I have not done this then the Bolton News would have pulled the thread and banned me from posting.

I will not be bullied by you or anyone else into not leaving my opinion on here.

I have a great life that doesn't include illegal activity and still manage to live life to the full and have a great time.

You and your friends seem to have something for causing danger to others, you really are doing the cause no good by using threatening behaviour.

I have never gobbed off about anything, I merely posted my comment as allowed by the Bolton News Comment Feature, You can agree or disagree with my comment and this is fine as I am also allowed to agree or disagree with comments left in return, as I have done in an inteligent manner, with exception to the bit of fun using bad grammar that I posted as my last comment, which was actually still quite intelligent as a response.

There is nothing cold hearted about posting a comment saying how dangerous and criminal it was for someone to go tearing around a public area on an high powered off road motorbike.

I have lost people close to me, but as far as I know, never to dangerous stupidity.

As I have mentioned before I have a great life and live it to the full.

I don't have to live in Leigh to have an opinion about something that happens there, the same way I can have an opinion about something that happens on the other side of the world if I like.

Whether I have kids or not is nothing to do with leaving comments on this site and I would hope that I would have taught my children the dangers to themselves and others of doing illegal, stupid things, and that they would think about that before thinking about doing anything like that.

And to answer your final question/threat how stupid would someone have to be to actually agree to that?, and as I have stated before I'm not the Stupid one...
