New smash at accident blackspot

A LANDROVER flipped onto its roof when it was involved in a smash on an accident-plagued road.

Fire officers were called to the A6 Blackrod bypass at around 5.20pm on Saturday following reports of a car crash, near to the traffic lights at the Ridgeway Arms pub.

When they arrived the Landrover was on its roof. It had collided with another car, which was at the side of the road.

Both drivers had got out of their vehicles and were treated by firefighters until paramedics arrived.

Their injuries are not believed to be serious.

Earlier this month Cllr John Barrow, who represents Horwich and Blackrod on Bolton Council, called for the 60mph hour limit on the Blackrod by-pass reduced to just 40mph.

His call came days after a lorry driver was airlifted to Wythenshawe Hospital in Manchester when his truck smashed through a fence on the A6 after a crash with a BMW. He suffered serious internal injuries but is now in a stable condition.
