Cable fire sparks club evacuation

A CLUB was evacuated when an electrical cable melted.

Firefighters were called to Rumworth Hall in Prescott Street, Daubhill, at midnight on Saturday.

The club's manager raised the alarm when she smelled smoke coming from the basement of the building.

Around 100 people were evacuated as a precaution.

Fire officers found that the main power cable into the club had overheated and melted.

United Utilities were called out to fix the cable.
