Girl raped in early morning attack

A 17-YEAR-OLD girl has been raped after being dragged onto a path.

The teenage girl was walking down the A58 Bury and Bolton Road near to the Ainsworth Arms pub on Tuesday, October 9 between 2am and 3.30am when she was dragged off the footpath to a track.

Detectives want to speak to a man between the age of 18 and 28-years-old, described as being slim with receding short hair. He was last seen running off from the direction of the Ainsworth Arms along Starling Road.

Police have released CCTV of a man fitting the description who was seen in the area.

Detective Inspector Ian Harratt, of the Sexual Offences Unit, said: "We have issued these images of this man as we believe he could hold vital information about the rape.

"I want everyone to have a good look at the pictures and contact us if you recognise him. Alternatively, if you recognise yourself from the photos then please get in touch.

"Since this happened we have been working round the clock and we have put in extra patrols to act as a reassuring presence in the area.

"The victim in this case is being helped by specially trained officers and being fully supported.

"We would like to take this opportunity to remind the public to take sensible precautions when out alone at night; to take a mobile phone with you, always make sure someone else knows where you are going and what time you will be home and avoid isolated locations keeping to well lit areas and where possible take a taxi home."

it's easy to blame the parents and/or the girl, but apportioning blame to victims is a little harsh - the reality is the vile man who attacked her. We should all be able to walk anywhere without fear of attack....

Totally agree, I thought people had evolved past the 'Asking for it' frame of mind.
Could the Bolton News please put a photo up of the vile so called man so folks online can name and shame.

Its advisable that young girls are not out walking alone at that time for fear of being raped or worse. You may think its OK but I'm sure many fathers of young girls reading this wont want their daughters out in the same circumstances and would make sure she made arrangements to get home safely or ring him up and he would pick her up.

It's not always possible to make such arrangements. And I am aware of safety measures thank you very much. However this does not give people the right to question why she was out at that time. The person you should be criticising is the vile creature that did this to her.

Yes you have to beware of characters like that so best to make arrangements to get home safely before an inconvenience becomes a nightmare. it would be nice to live in a utopian society where young girls can walk where they want at all hours of the day but we live in the real world.
So do you think its perfectly OK for a young girl to walk round Moss Side in Manchester alone at this time of night would you let your daughter ?

Whether it happens anywhere at any time of day or not, a 17 yr old girl should NOT be walking the streets alone at that time.

Of course whoever did this is vile scum, but vile scum like this prey on people and are opportunistic ... and a 17 yr old girl on her own in the dead of night is easy prey for them.

It's all good and well saying we should all be able to live in a world where we're safe .. but we DON'T live in that world. Rather than bury our heads in the sand and act all shocked and appalled when bad things happen, why not let's all be smart and alive to the dangers in it.

You can all blame the girl as much as you like but she is the one having to live with the horrible experiance, whether you think she was right or wrong for walking alone at that time of night is each and everyone's opinion but the point that everyone seems to be missing is this poor girls life hasn't really begun and now she has to live with these horrible memories, your all saying her parents this and her father that.. Will you all just step back and realise how this has affected her life? No-one should be to blame for this and if your all such loving parents, put yourself in her parents shoes! Their daughter has been the victim of a sordid, vile creature. How would you feel if it was someone writing such horrid things about your child who had just been through such an ordeal? I, in the past, have walked home many times alone (stupid, I know) but it happens, not everyone can afford taxi's here there and everywhere. Just have some consideration, don't point the finger at the victim. If you are all that high and mighty to jump in maybe you should stop putting in your opinions and actually help the police to find this pathetic excuse of a living being.

I don't think she was referring to the poster, ablueroom, but I must say that I agree with you. This crime is vile and the perpetrator needs to be caught, flogged, castrated and sent back to tonge moor or breightmet, wherever this excuse rots,but, as the father of a young daughter, I, too, am saddened that so many young girls are walking home, alone, at very late hours and obviously vulnerable. No one on here is apportioning blame, we are simply saying that this is not an isolated case, and there has to be thought given to allowing our daughters to be out so late without sufficient methods in place to get them home safely. This girl is now mentally damaged for her life, and it is sad, but we all know that there are these worthless morons walking our streets, we need to do all we can to protect those we love from falling victim. I am only very grateful that my village and country in general has almost none of these crimes, and our streets are safe at whatever time you wish to be out.

A Blue Room.. Maybe if you read what I said correctly you wouldn't be so quick to jump to conclusions. I was calling the man who put the girl through that experiance a pathetic excuse as I am not so rude to call someone for giving their opinion.
