FORMER Thornleigh Salesian College pupil Danny Boyle has been honoured at a prestigious theatre awards event for his stunning Olympic Games opening ceremony.
The Radcliffe-born director and his team won the Beyond Theatre award from gold medalwinning Team GB cyclist Victoria Pendleton at the London Evening Standard Theatre Awards.
Danny said: “We hoped to prove that culture runs through all of us and binds us all together."
The awards, hosted by Gavin and Stacey star James Corden, were held at the Savoy Hotel on Sunday.
Picking up his award, Boyle urged the audience to lobby for the inclusion of arts subjects in the English Baccalaureate.
Other winners included Dame Judi Dench, Simon Russell Beale, Hattie Morahan and Sweeney Todd won best musical.
Former Bolton School pupil Sir Ian McKellen was among the guests.
