WOMEN’S groups from across Bolton will take part in a series of events in support of an international campaign to eradicate violence against women.

The ‘16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence’ campaign, which runs until December 10, is also being supported by Bolton Council and Bolton at Home.

An exhibition has been organised to raise awareness of the issue.

About 15 women’s groups will decorate pairs of shoes and attach messages of support for victims of gender violence. The shoes are being turned into an exhibit called Take The First Step, which will go on display at the Bolton One Stop Shop and Bolton Library during December.

A networking event for the women’s groups involved in the project is being held on December 10 to celebrate the achievements of the campaign. Bolton groups taking part in the campaign include: Breighmet Library Women’s Group, British Red Cross WISP (Women’s Integration Support Project), Bright Meadows Children’s Centre, Leverhulme Women’s Group, Christine Partington House Women’s Group, Wellfield community Support Group, Targeted Youth Support, Just For Girls, Get Ripped For Girls, Bolton Solidarity Community Association, Access Refugee and Asylum Seekers Women’s Group, SafeHaven – Thank Goodness it’s Friday, Fortalice Women’s Group, Foxes of the Fold, and Johnson Fold.
