CORONATION Street actor Andy Whyment, pictured who plays Kirk Sutherland, is dedicating a light on a Christmas tree at St Ann’s Hospice in Little Hulton where his grandmother was treated.

The soap actor said staff at St Ann’s were “amazing”

with his grandmother.

Ruth Dewitt lived in Little Hulton and spent her final days in the hospice before her death last year, aged 80.

Mr Whyment said: “All the staff at the hospice were amazing with my Nana and made her feel very comfortable.

“I know it was the only place she wanted to spend her last few days and all our family were so pleased with the treatment she received.”

Mr Whyment, who last year organised a golf day with fellow Corrie actor Alan Halsall raising £10,000 for the hospice, will now receive a personalised card containing his dedication.

Hundreds of St Ann’s supporters have joined the Light Up A Life Appeal to celebrate the life of someone special.

The Rev Peter O’Brien, chaplain at St Ann’s , said: “You can dedicate a light to anyone you choose and they don’t need to have been a patient at the hospice.

“Light Up a Life is essentially an opportunity to celebrate the life of someone special.”
