FORMER Bolton School pupil Sir Ian McKellen will lend his voice to this year’s Doctor Who Christmas special.

The actor will voice the terrifying Snowmen in the episode, to be screened on Christmas Day.

A BBC spokesman confirmed the 73-year-old, who started his acting career at Bolton Little Theatre, is part of the show, which is set on Christmas Eve in 1892.

When the fairytale becomes a nightmare and a chilling menace threatens Earth, an unorthodox young governess, Clara, played by Jenna-Louise Coleman, calls on the Doctor for help.

Richard E Grant guest stars as chilly Victorian misanthrope Dr Simeon and Tom Ward plays kindly but uptight widower Captain Latimer.

Doctor Who — The Snowmen will be on BBC1 at 5.15pm on Christmas Day.
