A WOMAN has been arrested on suspicion of robbery after allegedly stealing from a man who was found unconscious in a park.

The 55-year-old man was found on the pathway of a park at the junction of Bradford Street and Bromwich Street, The Haulgh, on Saturday night.

Police are investigating whether he was attacked or if he simply fell and hurt himself.

Now a 36-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of robbery and has been bailed pending further inquiries.

It is alleged that items had been stolen from the man — but it is not clear whether he was assaulted or whether the property was taken after he was unconscious.

The man is now said to be in a critical but stable condition in Salford Royal Hospital. Police are trying to track down his next of kin.

Detectives are investigating what happened to the man and have appealed for witnesses to help trace his movements.

They believe he was drinking in the town centre on Saturday night and was making his way home.

He was found with a head injury in the park but police say they are “keeping an open mind” about what happened to him.

The man is white, slim and with greyish hair. He was wearing cream jeans, a green jacket, purple shoes and a blue and pink patterned jumper.

Det Insp Gary Smith said: “We have a number of detectives investigating this incident who are working to establish what has happened to this man.

“We are keeping an open mind and are appealing to anyone who saw him to get in contact.”
