PLANS to install bollards near Blackrod Conservative Club look poised to be given the green light despite objections from the club.
Playdays Daycare Nursery in Church Street, Blackrod, wants to install bollards and create a pedestrian footway extending from Church Street to the nursery.
The bollards would be placed alongside the gable elevation of Blackrod Conservative Club in Church Street as part of the nursery’s plans to “enhance pedestrian safety”.
The club and some nearby residents have objected to the proposals due to concerns over vehicle access for beer deliveries and parking — with the club claiming it will lose five car parking spaces.
But the scheme still looks set to be approved by Bolton Council planning chiefs when they meet next Thursday.
A report to the planning committee said: “The benefits of enhancing pedestrian access and safety outweighs the loss of car parking and will not unduly restrict deliveries to the club. Access to residents’ car parking will not be compromised by the proposal, nor will the width of highway available to all users.”
