DRIVERS are being warned they could face traffic chaos when roads as closed so “vital”

improvements can be carried out on two bridges.

Astley Lane Bridge and Eagley Bridge will both be refurbished from Monday and both projects will lead to road closures.

Both bridges will be closed to traffic while work is under way and council chiefs have said they will make every effort to minimise disruption.

The work to Astley Lane Bridge will take about eight weeks.

Vehicles which need to get to nearby businesses and homes will be diverted along Astley Lane, which is currently pedestrian use only.

Temporary traffic signals will be in operation on Astley Lane.

The work to Eagley Bridge will take about nine weeks.

While Eagley Bridge is closed Hough Lane, which is usually closed to traffic, will be opened for access to Eagley Mills. Hough Lane will be gritted when necessary depending on the weather.

Once the work has finished Hough Lane will be closed and Eagley Bridge will reopen to traffic.

Work will then continue for a further two weeks under the main bridge and on the footbridge.

Motorists will not be affected but pedestrian access will be limited.

Diversions will be in operation and signposted for this scheme.
