A MUSIC producer who scored an internet hit is using his skills to inspire and motivate teenagers in Bolton.
They recently created a dance track which features the vocals of a 14-year-old singer who attends one of the groups.
Bump In The Night has been featured on BBC Introducing, which showcases unsigned artists, on BBC Radio Lancashire and BBC Radio Manchester, as well as clocking up thousands of views on YouTube. Mr English, a former Turton High School pupil, helps run two youth organisations, working with youngsters to build their skills and confidence.
He said: “One young person who regularly attended the sessions was 14-year-old Olivia Higham who told us that she loved to sing.
“Throughout the project she remained immensely focused and her confidence has seen a dramatic improvement.
“Over the months I was astounded how much she had improved and my mind started developing an idea.”
Mr English said: “We thought it would be a fantastic opportunity for her and she leapt at the chance.
“She made the track her own and we fell in love with the result.”
Olivia has also recorded vocals for a second track which is due to be released.
Mr English said he is passionate about different types of media and uses his multimedia skills in a bid to create projects for disadvantaged young people in Bolton, particularly Great Lever and Halliwell.
He helps to run two youth organisations, Upbeat Media and charity B-Muzik.
In December 2011, he submitted a successful application to Bolton Interfaith Council’s Neighbourhood Challenge Project.
He launched a weekly project at Sunnyside Community Centre, Moisant Street, Great Lever, giving young people the chance to take part in activities such as music and video production, creative writing, DJ workshops and performance skills.
Mr English, who volunteers at Harmony Youth Project, Halliwell, four days a week, said: “This was the chance I needed to show my potential and gave me the opportunity to inspire young people with what has most inspired me.”
