THE Horwich Branch of the Royal British Legion, which was reformed nearly three years ago, has launched an appeal for new members.

There are less than 20 members and bosses want to recruit as many people as possible.

Last year the group raised more than £15,000 from Horwich. Sue Denton, from the group, said: “This could not have been achieved without the support of the local shops, schools, pubs and supermarkets. Also thanks must go to the Horwich 1471 ATC and the various Scout groups and carnival royalty who volunteered their services. Our members, of course, gave up their time to collect over the whole period.”

The Remembrance Day parade was hailed a huge success and left and returned from Horwich RMI Club in Chorley New Road, where the legion is based. Mrs Denton said: “We are hoping to hold many more fundraisers this year, but our main concern is to recruit new members to assist the fantastic work of the Royal British Legion in supporting Service personnel, their families and dependents.”

Application forms for membership are available from Sue Denton on 01204 691723.
