SHE is more used to high society dinners and TV appearances — but Princess Maja von Hohenzollern of Germany this week paid a flying visit to a furniture shop in Farnworth.

She dropped in at the showroom of upmarket Furniture in Fashion, in Stone Hill Road, on Wednesday.

The Princess is a member of the former royal family of the Emperor of Prussia — one of the oldest monarchy dynasties in Europe.

Princess Maja, a keen entrepreneur, wants to collaborate with the Farnworth designers for her own children’s furniture line — called A Princess World.

And the extravagant designs at Furniture in Fashion seemed to go down a storm with Princess Maja on her first trip to Bolton.

Dressed head-to-toe in pink, the princess said: “I have really enjoyed my visit here today. It’s my first time to Manchester and to Bolton and everyone has been so friendly.

“Why would I not enjoy looking at all this amazing furniture? I’m a designer.

“I design princess furniture for children and adults as well as toys and baby baths.”

Princess Maja, born in Dresden, now lives in Marbella in Spain with her 13 rescue dogs, three cats and two hamsters.

But the busy princess spends most of her time globetrotting to pursue her humanitarian and animal welfare campaigns as well as her latest furniture venture.

Her designs include crown-embroidered baby sheets, mini-chandeliers and princess coach wardrobes.

Princess Maja, aged 41, added: “My schedule is definitely not as busy as Her Majesty the Queen’s but I am very busy.

“I love animals and children so I have been all over the world for charity work.

“I have moved many times but now I live in Marbella — it’s quieter and I can get away from the paparazzi.”

Furniture in Fashion, which used to be based in Bradshawgate, Bolton, supplies businesses and hotels in Germany, and chief executive Asad Shamim said the princess approached them to organise the visit.

Mr Shamim said: “It’s an honour and a pleasure to have Princess Maja here and it will be a privilege to work with her in the future.

“Hopefully we are going to design some intriguing and extravagant furniture.

“We have a lot in common too. We are both fashion designers, both aged 41, and both born on October 8.”
