A FORMER Bolton Wanderers midfielder was given a six-month suspended prison sentence and ordered to carry out 300 hours of unpaid work after he fell asleep at the wheel and killed a motorcyclist.
Scott Sellars, who played more than 100 games for the Whites from 1995 to 1999, pleaded guilty to causing death by careless driving.
Nottingham Crown Court heard that the incident happened on the A6 in Derbyshire in April, 2011.
Sellars, aged 47, was spared jail after Recorder Shaun Smith said it was a single careless act and Sellars was not speeding.
The court also heard that the former footballer, now a youth coach at Manchester City, had apologised to the family of Simon Burnett, who died after the accident.
The accident happened as Sellars was driving home from work in Manchester, having gone straight there after flying home from Dubai.
Neither Manchester City nor Scott Sellars responded to requests for comment.
