BOLTON Wanderers will unveil a miniature Nat Lofthouse statue tomorrow on the second anniversary of his death.

Sculptor Sean Hedges Quinn, who has been commissioned to produce an image of the Wanderers legend, is now working on the full size sculpture.

The 18-inch tall maquette, a small model sculpture used as a template for the larger one, will allow the sculptor to work on the detail that will be replicated in the full scale image.

Wanderers captain Kevin Davies modelled for Mr Quinn while creating the statue, as he is said to have a physique similar to the footballing legend in his heyday. Club chaplain Phil Mason said: “The maquette captures perfectly Nat’s strength and sense of purpose on and off the field, and I am sure Jeff and Viv will be very pleased with the work so far.

“Sean will produce a total of nine maquettes and we’ll be targeting local businesses and Bolton institutions. We have had tremendous support from the public with their donations and our partnerships with The Bolton News and Dunscar brewery has been particularly successful.”

The club will also unveil finalised plans for the loca-tion of the statue early in February.

l Bolton FM will repeat a “Nat Lofthouse: A Tribute” tomorrow at 2pm.
