Rules changes will give cash boost to community groups

COMMUNITY groups looking for a boost in income could benefit from changes to rules surrounding grants, a Bolton volunteers’ organisation has announced.

Bolton Council for Voluntary Services (CVS) says the Awards for All organisation is now allowing groups with income under £30,000 to apply for funding.

Awards for All offers grants of between £300 and £10,000 for projects that improve communities and the lives of residents. It is for voluntary and community groups, schools and health organisations, parish and town councils. It no longer funds small projects based mainly on sports, arts or heritage. However it does offer some small lottery grants.

Bolton CVS, based at Bold Street, said the new rules are being tested until at least the end of March, 2013. It has produced a report explaining the changes.
