A NINE-YEAR-OLD entrepreneur could give Lord Alan Sugar a run for his money after her unique dog biscuits idea made £3,500 in just 12 months.

Scarlett Berry set up Barking Berry’s Bakery to raise money for animal rescue charities fter getting some inspiration from vet Mike Nolan, from Darley House, Farnworth.

She raised £1,140 after baking animal treats with her mother and grandmother.

Budding vet Scarlett, from Westhoughton, has spent the past year travelling all over the region to fun dog shows and events to add to the amount.

The Clevelands Preparatory School pupil even launched a Christmas appeal, offering to match any donations to her favoured charities with an equal amount of homemade pet treats, ensuring rescue animals over Christmas had a present of their own.

She has also launched a special page on the social networking website, Facebook.

This year the business-minded youngster and her family are organising a dog show in Central Park, Westhoughton, on June 15.

It will raise funds for Bolton Destitute Animal Shelter and Dogs Trust Merseyside.

There will also be other animal rescue charities at the dog show from across the North West. Scarlett’s proud mum, Sarah, said: “Organising an event like this is a first for us but we have such fantastic support through the charities we work with and Scarlett’s 500-plus supporters on Facebook.

“We are sure we can make it a really great day for the whole community.”

The race is on now to get sponsorship for the fun dog show classes, donations of prizes for the raffle and local businesses to take stalls at the event.

Mrs Berry said: “We are letting all the charities have their stalls for free because we want them to make as much money as they can.

“We are charging other businesses £10 for a stall to make some money for Bolton Animal Shelter and Dogs Trust.”
