A FORMER pupil of Thornleigh Salesian College, who worked in local government for 37 years, has been recognised by the Queen.
David Valentine, aged 60, pictured, was awarded an MBE in the New Year honours list.
He was honoured for his services to local government and the community in Angus, Scotland, where he now lives.
Mr Valentine was born in Summerseat and raised in Edenfield, where his father, William Valentine, still lives. He attended St Joseph’s Primary School, in Ramsbottom, and Thornleigh Salesian College, in Astley Bridge.
Mr Valentine secured a job with Angus Council. He moved through the ranks and reached the post of head of economic development and environment and consumer protection, before retiring last November.
Highlights of his career include establishing tourism initiatives in Angus and forging links with Yantai in China. Outside work, Mr Valentine served on the Scout committee and was a member of Forfar Rotary Club for 18 years.
