Stop farming sea turtles, says MP

A BOLTON MP is backing a campaign to stop sea turtles being farmed for food in the world’s last commercial farm.

David Crausby, who represents Bolton North East, is backing the World Society for the Protection of Animals’ (WSPA) drive to stop sea turtle farming at the Cayman Turtle Farm in the Cayman Islands.

The WSPA claims it has discovered evidence of animal cruelty, along with massive conservation and financial failures at the farm.

Sea turtles in the wild naturally travel thousands of miles across oceans every year, but 7,000 of the endangered creatures have been effectively immobilised and stockpiled in tanks at the facility.

Mr Crausby said: “I was shocked to see the conditions revealed by WSPA’s investigation and I am convinced that there is simply no humane way to commercially farm sea turtles.

“I hope the government will make a stand against this practice. I urge Bolton residents to join me by signing up to WSPA’s campaign at stopseaturtle farm.org”

I commend mr.Crausbys' concerns about the farming of sea turtles.Mr.causby, being a politician conjures up in my cynical mind.1 is he after a freebie to the Caymans?2 Should he not be more concerned about local issues in his constituency?
