Zumba fun charity session for school

PEOPLE are being invited to show they have the right moves when it comes to supporting good causes.

Zumba teacher Tracey Howard is staging a two-hour keep fit session to raise funds for Birtenshaw School in Bromley Cross after seeing the work it does with disabled people.

She said: “When I went on the tour I thought the school was amazing but I couldn’t understand why the classrooms were so big for such small numbers of children.

“I was told it was to help accommodate support staff and it was then that it hit home to me how much work is involved and I wanted to do my bit to support them.”

Ms Howard and two other Zumba teachers, Laura Williams and Melanie Mason, decided to organise a Zumbathon fundraiser on Sunday from 11am to 1pm at Turton High School.

Chief executive of the charity David Reid said: “Birtenshaw works with some of the most profoundly disabled children and young people in our society.

“Our education and care services enhance their lives and help them to reach their potential. We are a community based local charity and depend on the work of our partners and supporters. The dedication of fundraisers like Tracey is vital for us to continue the work we do and we are extremely grateful for all the hard work she has put in to organise this event.”

Tickets for the marathon cost £10 and are available by calling 07966 449265 or from Birtenshaw School in Darwen Road, Bromley Cross.

I always love these healthy options.

We are reminded constantly that fitness is imperative and necessary if we are to have a healthier lifestyle - constantly by the government - but it costs the Earth to go get healthy at these shindigs and to eat our greens etc.

Kudos to the organizer for the right idea and the intent though. Shame you can't get people on board for free via one of those grants that keep going to stupid causes.

Opop's charity... I read that all wrong, but even so I stand by the healthy living costs. And your charity is far greater of need as it is for over here and not over there... sorry for the misinterpretation..
