A TERRIFIED motorist had her car attacked by a drunken man as she gave a friend a lift home.

Clinton Kirkman ran at the victim’s Vauxhall Corsa in the middle of Horace Street, Halliwell, kicked and punched the doors and bonnet and tried to get inside the vehicle, Bolton Magistrates’ Court was told.

Howard Sloane, prosecuting, told District Judge Jonathan Finestein how, just after midnight on January 9, Jacqueline Bower dropped a friend off in Horace Street.

She saw a man standing in the road, who ran at her car and began attacking it.

Mr Sloane said: “He was abusive and aggressive, punching and kicking doors.”

After a few minutes the terrified woman managed to drive away — but the attack caused £500 of damage. But when police arrived Kirkman turned his aggression on their vehicle, causing £100 of damage.

Kirkman, a 35-year-old unemployed chef, pleaded guilty to two counts of criminal damage.

He was sentenced to do 180 hours unpaid work and will be subject to a 7pm to 7am curfew for three months.
