HORWICH Town Council’s tax bill has been cut by seven per cent — reducing the amount people will pay.

The change will come into force in the 2013/14.

A Band D property will pay £26.63, which is £2.07 less than this year.

It comes after Horwich Town Council cut costs to reduce its budget.

Leader of Horwich Town Council, Cllr Kevan Helsby MBE, said: “This was the right thing to do, many council tax payers are struggling financially and we have done our best to keep costs down.

“Last year we set up a Financial Review subcommittee.

Through this, and with the backing of the full Town Council, we have closely examined our expenditure and will continue to do so.

“The contribution of town councillors is voluntary and by supporting other voluntary groups this expenditure is good value.”

The budget pays to run Horwich Resource Centre and supports events including Horwich in Bloom, Horwich Carnival and Road Races, and other initiatives including civic medals, civic signs, the Town Guide and grants to voluntary groups.
