FARNWORTH Post Office will undergo a revamp in a bid to attract more customers.

Royal Mail bosses have applied for planning permission from Bolton Council to make improvements to the service in Brackley Street.

The revamp will enable Royal Mail bosses to offer more services at the popular facility.

They want to make some areas bigger to create a larger stationery shop, get travel currency and access forms such as driving licence applications.

Bosses from Royal Mail also want to put more products on display as what is currently on offer is described as “limited”.

The improvements are necessary as the number of services the post office offers, such as insurance, credit cards, car tax and travel money, as well as sending and receiving post, has increased in recent years. A Royal Mail spokesman said: “The number of services has increased in recent years to such an extent that space is needed to provide shelves, displays and products.

“The retail range is currently quite limited and the new layout will create space to increase it, as well as allowing the installation of the new open-plan counters.”

Bosses are also concerned that the outside of the building is seen as “drab”

and “outdated”, so part of the proposal includes redesigning the entrance to the building.
