BOLTON boxing ace Amir Khan has contacted police after receiving abusive messages on Twitter.

Amir, aged 26, wrote on his twitter account on Saturday: “Found out who the fake accounts are who send me and my family abusive tweets every day.

“Got the police and they told me the person’s name and address. They told me to leave it all in their hands. Thank you.”

I don't use twitter, but to me it seems the height of vanity for a "celebrity",or indeed anyone,to expect all posts to be supportive.

Too many haters out there, people just very jealous of Khan. Khan has worked hard to get where he is and has also given a lot to charity and good causes. These haters are nothing but idiots who have to hide behined a screen and given silly abuse.

If you don't want abuse, then don't put yourself out there for it. I was always taught that sticks and stones may break my bones, but calling names can't hurt me. Does Amir Khan complain in the ring if someone swears at him?

What sort of person sets aside some time each and every day to abuse a person's family who they quite clearly don't know? I'd suggest a person who has nothing of value in their own life and that is very sad.

If celebs want to be all over social media sites then you have to be prepared to take the good with the bad.

They wouldn't give and address but police now have the right to acquire info on accounts despite all the SOPA, ACTA and PIPA protests. The powers given to the police have been pushed in behind the backs of the public in a civil liberties attack that if you didn't know about it then you wouldn't be told about it.

Totally agree that these celeb's are soft in the head if they think everybody will be a fan... hmm here's an idea: DON'T OPEN A SOCIAL MEDIA ACCOUNT if you can't take the shi*t that comes with one.

And another thing... the people doing this to Khan are amateurs, fancy doing a spot of trolling on your own computer and not on a proxy. How f'ing dumb lol.

Plus Khan should be able to afford to get the techies in to help him reverse trace the sh*t that do this without the need for the police. It's not hard with the right software and machine.

Khan is a foo, to himself at times, he comments are clearly intended as a threat, I know who you are type thing, well you don't because the police will not tell you, if they even looked.

I have a lot of respect for khan, but sometimes he needs to wise up, his management are rubbish.

Some celebs,(I use that term very lightly)live to tweet,take Sordell eg.They tweet all kinds of crap just like anyone else.when they get crap back they tend to throw a celeb.tantrum.I don't condone abusive tweets,(except where cllr Morris is concerned) but suck it up,you are now HUGE MEGA CELEBS., I'm quite sure if people took no notice of them most celebs.would feel that their STAR status was waning and would seek attention anyway.Caught your last fight Amir,you really tweeted the guy right between the eyes.
