Gaming future for Jessops store
9:17am Wednesday 30th January 2013 in News
THE former Jessops photography shop in Bolton is to become a bookmakers.
Ladbrokes is to close its branch in Great Moor Street and transfer to the former Jessops outlet in neighbouring Newport Street.
The betting company has asked Bolton Council for permission to change the use of the building so it can begin trading.
The council is aiming to reach a decision by March 18.
Last year, Ladbrokes closed its branch in Market Street and moved to Deansgate.
Jessops closed earlier this month after the firm went into administration, with bosses blaming the recession, changing technology and the rise of internet shopping.

The plans will be passed as they are merely in effect moving to a new location. Of greater concern would be why was it necessary to allow Corals to open in the original library building on Victoria Square (last used as the Nationwide Building Society). As stated elsewhere the town centre has quickly become an area of Pay-day loans, pawnbrokers and betting shops.
Do we need so many betting shops? I hope the council refuses permission....
