FORMER Bolton School pupil Sir Ian McKellen is set to reprise his role in Samuel Beckett’s Waiting For Godot on the Broadway stage.

The 73-year-old, a patron of Bolton Little Theatre, will also perform in Harold Pinter’s No Man’s Land in New York later this year.

He will appear alongside his X-Men co-star Patrick Stewart in both the productions, directed by Sean Mathias, which are scheduled to open in the autumn and will run in repertory.

Sir Ian, pictured, said: “British actors are used to playing in repertory, whether for the National Theatre or the Royal Shakespeare Company.

“We enjoy the challenge of variety, and audiences, myself included, enjoy watching a group of actors in contrasting roles.”

“We hope, at least once a week, to give Broadway audiences the chance of seeing Beckett and Pinter on adjacent nights, perhaps even on the same day.”
