PLANS to open an Italian takeaway in Westhoughton have been thrown out for the second time.

The applicant, known as Ms Meredith, appealed against Bolton Council’s decision to reject proposals in March last year for the takeaway in Church Street.

Planning inspector Richard Clegg dismissed the appeal due to the impact the business would have on the appearance on that area of Westhoughton, safety because of fears it would lead to on-street parking and the disturbance for nearby residents.

Mr Clegg said: “Use of the site as a takeaway, restricted by condition to the operation of a delivery service, would involve the re-use of existing premises and provide a number of jobs.

“These benefits, however, do not outweigh the severe localised harm which would be caused in respect of highway safety and the significant harm to the living conditions of neighbours.”

Cllr David Wilkinson, a member of Westhoughton Town Council, added: “This takeaway has been trundling on for months. It has now been kicked out. It would have caused chaos for residents both with parking and late night noise.

“I am glad that this has bitten the dust. I am glad to say that the planning officers stuck to the refusal .”
