IT was second time lucky for teenager Sam Hassall in this week’s episode of CBBC’s Junior Vets.

The 13-year-old Bolton School pupil had to leave the operating theatre in last week’s episode when he become queasy during surgery on a dog’s leg.

But in yesterday’s episode, he made it through an operation to remove a lump from the foot of a falcon named Gandalf.

Sam was shown holding the falcon, cleaning the wound and stitching it up.

After the operation, Sam, from Heaton, said: “My last experience in the operating theatre I had a shaky time, but this experience was much better.”

He is one of six children chosen from 1,000 applicants to become the first juniors to enrol at Edinburgh University’s vet school and compete for the title of head vet.

The next episode will be broadcast on CBBC at 5.45pm on Monday.
