Channel M was poor and barely viewable in Bolton apart from the extreme south of the town.It failed partly due to a weak signal and also the recession at the time. I would rather see a Bolton TV channel. We are not Manchester and never will be or want to be. It mystifies me why local radio lumps us with Manchester and we are big enough to have our own radio and TV stations. I've no interest in Didsbury or Levenshulme or Cheetham Hill.

Unfortunatelly, it was on satallite television so was viewable. The former children TV announcer Andy Crane was on it at, called us Gtr Mancunians, e-mailed with my disgust at the name, insisting we are Lancastrians--he did'nt reply.

Well what did you Expect from a Thick O Mancunian. and as for Bolton it is still and all ways will be in the County of Lancashire. There is no such County of This Stupid name Greater Manchester. ( FACT ) its only the Queen can do that Which she never will do as there would be a very big up.row . in Bolton as we are the Biggest Town in the Country . and towns like Bury and Wigan Stockport Rochdale Oldham and a few others would not Except it. and thats why Greater Manchester Council Offices Closed down in 1984. in Manchester. Because Towns Like Bolton did not want to be a part of that Robbing Manchester Council taking to much of the Money that went in to pay off Manchesters council Tax Arrears .and once Bolton pulled out Bury Wigan and the others Pulled out to . so for once i will say well Done to Bolton Council for Starting the Ball rolling . So for that TV Channel for Manchester you can stick it Because there will only be you lot Watching it and if it anything like Manchester it will be Rubbish. once again FACT.

I fear if "Your TV Manchester" is transmitted from Winter Hill, then all the North West into north Wales, will be able to view it. If bolton and the rest of the region of south Lancashire & north Cheshire (Gtr Man)
is covered by the station, then we will be looked on as part of Manchester by outsiders. Hope we all have nothing to do with it

BWFC58 - in fact there was a Royal Edict that took Bolton and others out of Lancashire. Just like there was a Royal Edict that took Blackburn (with Darwen) out of Lancashire and Blackpool as well. Bolyon is, infact, since 1974 a Metropolitan Borough not assigned to any county. But presently the current crop of money-grabbing councillors signed us up to AGMA - the new GMC and as such we are part of Greater Manchester. Our police, fire, ambulance are Greater Manchester and not Lancashire (again a Royal edict granted the permission of the formation of these services). Our trafic lights, road calming measures and transport network falls under TfGM and not Bolton Council. Therefore we are Greater Manchester, and yes you can blame Royalty for letting it happen. Oh and BTW landmass wise Wigan is bigger than Bolton and population wise we are 3rd largest in England!!!

Others: Channel M failed due to Guardian Media Group (GMG) going through financial problems and their best way was to cut funding to the TV station and try to sell it - no one bought it and, after MEN and other local newspapers were sold by GMG, there was no use for the channel due to lack of local news gathering, and as uch they closed it. But Channel M lasted for at least a decade - starting off as a University TV Channel for Salford!!!
